SUBJECT: Flashing the BIOS for the Series 75
Page 85 of the American Megatrends User's Guide for the series 75 clearly
states that a shorting plug should be installed on J51 prior to flashing the
BIOS and removed immediately after the programming process is completed.
Page 86 of the User's Guide lists the steps to be taken to flash the BIOS
after the shorting plug is installed.
To successfully program the flash EPROM, the shorting bridge or plug must be
installed on J51 and the instructions on page 86 followed. Listed below is a
recap of the instructions appearing on pages 85 and 86 of the User's Guide.
Programming the Flash EPROM
Step Action
1 Turn system power off.
2 Install a 2-pin shorting bridge/plug on J51.
3 Copy the new BIOS file S75P.ROM to the root directory of a
floppy diskette of the correct size for drive A:.
4 Place the floppy disk that has the latest S75P.ROM BIOS file in
floppy drive A: and, if drive A: is a 5.25" drive, close the floppy
door.
5 Make sure that the system has a speaker that is connected. An
explanation of the beeps which may be heard during programming can
be found of page 88 in the User's Guide.
6 Turn system power on while pressing and holding down the <Home> key
simultaneously for several seconds.
7 Once the flash programming process is complete, turn the power off.
8 Remove the shorting bridge/pin from J51.
